Bird Whales

The bird whales are still chirping
They ring with sudden cheer
From a tiny shop in Mexico
To a dorm room in Georgia’s Rome

Their song is silent most of the day
Until a huff of frustration, gasp of delight
Stirs their excitement
They warble their awkward song

Tails of whales
Beaks of birds
Rare white marble
Less than three dollars

They spin and they spiral
A sight made for singing
A light made for laughing
A feature of home

Odd swirls of many stories
None of us are perfect
Sometimes, our chimes tangle
But together, we can sing
